Our Pathways to Health Workshops and Training for Volunteers

~ Community Health Alliance

Do you have high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, arthritis or ANY chronic medical condition? Do you want to feel better? Do you care for someone who has a chronic medical condition? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, then Our Pathways to Health is for you. The Community Health Alliance is presenting Our Pathways to Health, a FREE chronic disease self-management workshop, at various locations around Humboldt County. Developed by Dr. Kate Lorig of The Stanford Patient Education Research Center, and branded locally as Our Pathways to Health, these peer-led workshops are designed to help people gain self-confidence in their ability to control their symptoms and how their health problems affect their lives.

WHAT: Volunteers conduct the workshops and are required to take the series as part of their volunteer training; they are then required to lead the workshop over the upcoming year (see details below and please call for more information). The small, curriculum-based workshops are given in community settings for two and a half hours per week for six weeks. See the schedule below for upcoming workshops in your area.  To learn more about volunteering for Our Pathways to Health or to register for a FREE workshop, please contact Michelle, below.

 Sequoia Humane Society Volunteer Orientations

First Sunday of Each Month

Learn what it takes to be a Sequoia Humane Society Pet Adoption Center Volunteer! Volunteer orientations are held once a month (unless otherwise noted) at the Sequoia Humane Society Pet Adoption Center. This is a required introduction to ongoing volunteering opportunities at the adoption center. Sequoia Humane Society promotes the humane treatment of all animals and strives to end pet overpopulation through programs such as pet adoption, spay & neuter and community education.

WHAT: The orientation lasts approximately one hour and is held on the first Sunday of each month unless otherwise noted. Orientation includes information about volunteering, a tour of the Shelter, a small training, time to fill out paperwork and receive your Volunteer Handbook for this hour. New volunteers will be paired with a staff member during their first volunteer visit (to be scheduled another day) so that volunteers receive training in safe animal handling procedures ("Buddy-Up" training).
WHEN: Orientations are held the first Sunday of each month 3:30-4:30pm, please call or email to make sure they’re happening and to sign up!

WHERE: Sequoia Humane Society Pet Adoption Center, 6073 Loma Avenue (off the King Salmon Avenue exit), Eureka.
