About Us

The Volunteer Center of the Redwoods’ mission is to provide the leadership and resources that support volunteers as they make positive changes in our community

The Volunteer Center of the Redwoods is a program of the Area 1 Agency on Aging and has been promoting and supporting volunteerism since 1994. Volunteers continually make our community better for people of all ages and backgrounds.

The Volunteer Center, which includes RSVP, creatively addresses the evolving needs of our communities and volunteers of all ages. We endeavor to support volunteers and community organizations by offering a range of services.

In addition to helping agencies manage their volunteers more effectively by providing useful training and consulting to their staff, the Volunteer Center is a place for those who want to volunteer to discover options for volunteering:

The Drop of a Hat Brigade program offers short-term service opportunities that volunteers can seamlessly weave into their busy lives.

Long term and ongoing service positions include school volunteering through the SHARE program (which includes Pen Pals, Resource Speakers, and Classroom Assistants), public safety agencies, hospitals, senior care facilities, environmental organizations, museums, libraries, and myriad organizations in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties.
