Abuse often gets worse if nobody stops it. Report suspected cases to the appropriate agency or to law enforcement. They can often stop abuse before serious injury happens. Definitions of abuse include, but are not limited to:
Physical Abuse
- Physical Assault
- Sexual Assault
- Unreasonable physical constraint
- Prolonged withholding of food or water
- Inappropriate use of a physical or chemical restraint, or psychotropic medication
Psychological Abuse
- Verbal assaults, threats or harassment
- Subjecting a person to fear, isolation or serious emotional distress
- Confinement
Financial Abuse
- Theft
- Embezzlement
- Misuse of funds or property
- Extortion
- Fraud
Neglect
- Failure to assist in personal hygiene
- Failure to provide clothing and shelter
- Failure to provide medical care
- Failure to protect from health and safety hazards
- Failure to provide food
- Abandonment
- Self-Neglect
