RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) is a federally-funded program that promotes community involvement and volunteerism in Humboldt/Del Norte counties. Those who are 55 and older are encouraged to sign up as an RSVP member and become a national service volunteer. RSVP members help to address some of the pressing issues in our community. Opportunities in Disaster Preparedness, Environmental Stewardship, Education, Economic Opportunities, Healthy Futures, and Veterans and Military Families are among the placements we aim to fill. Local non-profits and government agencies work together with RSVP to place applicants in volunteer jobs that help fill a commuity need. For more information, call (707) 601-7809 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Volunteer Center of the Redwoods
Highlighting what we do! who-steward-you
As Boomers retire, many want to stay active, healthy and spend time outdoors. In Northern California, behind the Redwood Curtain, many older adults are getting involved by getting their hands dirty- building trails, creatively reusing materials, and redirecting waste from the landfill. Find out about what is happening in rural Northern California with Environmental Stewardship. Transport yourself into the wonder of a redwood forest and learn about this unique and dedicated community of aging environmental stewards. This is a 10-minute video produced by Maureen McGarry, Project Director of the Humboldt/Del Norte RSVP. Learn how a community “thinking outside the box” is becoming a national model for sustainable practices in community-owned forest management and in waste prevention. See how volunteers creatively collaborate to educate the community about trash as a natural resource.
